Route questions, answered

Specific planning questions, with the scope of each source kept visible.

Are the two arms of the Mönch east ridge equivalent?

The SAC distinguishes the south arm, ZS-, from the northeast arm, ZS, although both have 3–4-hour ascent estimates. The shared duration does not remove their difference in published difficulty. Follow the exact itinerary name when choosing a description.

SAC · Mönch route overview and archive

Does the Mönch’s 3–4-hour figure include the return?

No. The SAC labels these figures ascent. They do not establish a complete round trip, and the overview alone does not resolve the starting point used in our catalogue. Confirm the detailed approach and descent before comparing total day lengths.

SAC · Mönch route overview and archive

Does reaching Mönchsjochhütte mean climbing Mönch?

No. SAC lists the Jungfraujoch hut approach separately: 45–75 minutes and 200 m ascent. Summit ridges require separate itinerary planning.

Research still needed

For Mönch, this atlas does not yet document first-ascent history; checked seasonal restrictions. Missing first-ascent evidence does not mean a mountain is unclimbed.

Use the linked sources as starting points; summit coordinates do not describe a climbing route or public access.
