ORIENTATION
Iraq at a glance
Iraq’s mountain catalogue spans high border summits and lower named mountains. Start with Halgurd and Cheekha Dar for high-mountain geography, then compare Mount Korek. These are geographic examples, not recommended ascents or a complete survey of Iraqi mountains.
0 profiles with routes · 0 planning source checks.

Mountains and regional geography
The KRI Presidency describes mountain ranges, valleys and plains in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and names Halgurd, Korek and Bradost among its mountains. Use individual profiles and their range assignments to narrow the catalogue; the region is not synonymous with all of Iraq.
Access research remains separate
Geographic records do not establish travel suitability. FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Its regional guidance also identifies landmines and unexploded weapons in some rural and border areas. Consult current advice from your own authorities and verify local access independently.
Mountain groups represented here
Groups can overlap through parent and subrange membership. Counts are catalogue coverage, not measures of suitability.
Mountains to explore
Compare before choosing
| Mountain | Elevation | Location / group | Geography and research scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Halgurd | 3,607 m | Iraq Zagros Mountains | Catalogue height 3,607 m. The KRI Presidency’s geography section agrees, while another section gives 3,706 m; that source is internally inconsistent. Read profile and research gaps → |
| Cheekha Dar | 3,611 m | Iraq Zagros Mountains | Catalogue height 3,611 m. This is an imported figure, not a newly checked survey or evidence for a particular ascent. Read profile and research gaps → |
| Mount Korek | 2,127 m | Iraq / Kurdistan Region of Iraq Northern Zagros | Catalogue height 2,127 m. A lower elevation does not establish easier terrain, legal access or a maintained trail. Read profile and research gaps → |
Elevation is a geographic comparison, not a technical grade. A shorter or lower mountain is not automatically an easier trip.
How this overview is compiled
The recorded summits span 500–3,611 m. This is the range of elevations in our catalogue, not the full relief of Iraq.
This selection contrasts recorded summit geography. Route durations, technical grades, seasonal access and current conditions have not been established for these selected profiles. They are starting points for exploration, not recommended ascents.
Climbing Chronicle Redaktion · atlas-based orientation. Sources checked 2026-10-05. Elevations, locations and range memberships come from the linked mountain records. Coverage is incomplete; imported geography is not a field inspection. Planning evidence remains attributed and dated on each profile.
Search the mountain catalogue
Search names such as Cervino or Monte Bianco. Planning sources checked are dated source checks, not a complete route review. Elevation does not measure difficulty. Route filters use source-linked entries, including labelled historical listings. Choose a rating system before selecting an exact grade; systems are not converted.

Range assignment coverage
26,859 source-linked assignments · 3,459 unassigned · 18 needing review
Source snapshot: 2026-10-05. Range membership uses explicit Wikidata relationships and recorded parent ranges. Additional assignments match summit coordinates inside published GMBA v2 standard mountain polygons, using the most specific eligible hierarchy node. Countries and coordinate boxes are not used to guess a range. These imported assignments have not been independently field-verified; missing evidence remains open.
